General Orders, No. 194 (U.S. War Department)

On June 27, 1863, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders No. 194 replacing Joseph Hooker with George G. Meade as commander of the Army of the Potomac.

War Dep't, Adjutant General's Office,

Washington, June 27, 1863.

By direction of the President, Major General Joseph Hooker is relieved from command of the Army of the Potomac, and Major General George G. Meade is appointed to the command of that Army and the troops temporarily assigned to duty with it.
