About This Image
A.P. Hill was a Confederate general and the brother-in-law of John Hunt Morgan. In the early days of the Civil War, he gained fame as the commander of Hill’s Light Division and served under Stonewall Jackson. Later, he commanded the Third Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia under Robert E. Lee. Hill was known to his soldiers as “Little Powell,” but also had a penchant for becoming sick prior to major engagements on the battlefield.
