On April 14, 1865, four years after Fort Sumter was surrendered to Confederate forces, a flag-raising ceremony was held. During the ceremony, the old flag which was taken by Major Robert Anderson when Union forces left, was raised once again above Fort Sumter. This photo shows the old flag ready to be raised.
