The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was a military engagement between Union forces commanded by Major General William T. Sherman and Confederate forces commanded by General Joseph E. Johnston during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. The encounter took place in Cobb County, near Marietta, Georgia, on June 27, 1864.
