In 1862, Ohio units serving at Nashville, Tennessee established Camp Brough, an encampment named in honor of Ohio Governor John Brough. The camp remained in use for the American Civil War's duration and housed several Ohio units, including the 18th Ohio Independent Battery of Ohio Volunteer Artillery, the 81st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and the 176th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
