General Orders, No. 184 (U.S. War Department) (November 8, 1862)

On November 8, 1862, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders No. 184, naming Major General Nathaniel P. Banks as commander of the Department of the Gulf.

By direction of the President of the United States, Major General N.P. Banks is assigned to the command of the Department of the Gulf, including the State of Texas.
