General Orders, No. 11 (U.S. War Department)

January 30, 1865

On January 30, 1865, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders, No. 11, merging the Department of Kansas into the Department of the Missouri, naming John Pope to command the Division of the Missouri, including the Departments of the Missouri and the Northwest, and transferring Samuel R. Curtis to the Department of the Northwest.

I..By direction of the President, the Department of Kansas is merged into the Department of Missouri, and Major General Curtis is transferred to the Department of the Northwest. Headquarters of the Department of Missouri are transferred to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

II..Major General Pope is appointed to the command of the Military Division of the Missouri, including the Departments of Missouri and the Northwest, Headquarters at St. Louis.
