General Orders, No. 62 (District of West Tennessee)

On July 17, 1862, Major General Ulysses S. Grant issued General Orders, No. 62 (Department of West Tennessee) announcing that he was assuming command of the Army of theTennessee, the Army of the Mississippi, and District of Mississippi and Cairo.

GENERAL ORDERS, No. 62

HDQRS. DISTRICT OF WEST TENNESSEE,
Corinth, Miss., July 17, 1862.

In compliance with Special Field Orders, Numbers 161, from Headquarters Department of the Mississippi, Corinth, Miss., July 16, 1862, the undersigned takes the command of all the troops embraced in the Army of the Tennessee, the Army of the Mississippi, and District of Mississippi and Cairo.

All reports and returns required by army regulations and existing orders will be made to the district headquarters, Corinth, Miss.
