Halleck’s Dispatch Relieving Buell

October 24, 1862

On October 24, 1862, General-in-Chief Henry Halleck relieved Major-General Don Carlos Buell of his command of the Army of the Ohio.

General :

—The President directs, that on the presentation of this order, you will turn over your command to Major-General W. S. Rosecrans, and repair to Indianapolis, Indiana, reporting from that place to the adjutant-general of the army, for further orders.
